When our thoughts look real to us, we live in a world of illusion.
When our thoughts look like just thoughts, we wake up to a space of possibility.
One is not necessarily better than the other. It is in the space of possibility that the illusions of our thinking are experienced – as one of many possibilities.
When we like what we are experiencing, it might not occur to us to notice. But when we do not like our experiences, it helps to know that they are but one possibility of experience.
There are always more ways of thinking and being available to us beyond the one we are experiencing. And the ones we end up choosing in each moment shape the unique story of our lives.
There is no right way of thinking or being. There are only possibilities to be experienced for a short period of time. There is no better way of thinking or being – only the ones we tend to prefer at different times.
You do not need to imagine living in a world where everything is just a possibility, and nothing needs condemning. Where you are always free to make choices about what you’d like to think, and how you’d like to be, that best suits your temperament at all points of time. And more importantly, where you are always free to simply be, irrespective of whatever thinking you happen to experience.
You just need to notice that you are already living in that world right now.
