Unlearning Your Struggles

We all want good feelings. But for a lot of us, no matter what we try to do in order to get them, they seem just one more action or achievement away.

So we get what we want. And we do feel good momentarily, fleetingly. And so we pursue the next thing and the next.

This is the sure path to being seemingly successful on paper but feeling hollow on the inside. How do I know this? Because I walked on this path myself. Luckily, I realized what was happening and course-corrected early on in my life.

I have since understood that good feelings are a natural and default state always available to us. For example, think of the time you had a good night’s sleep. Even though you are not aware of anything in deep sleep, you were probably still left with a feeling of restfulness. Your system is designed to go back into sleep again and again, and get to access this restfulness.

When you wake up in the morning, provided you slept well, you will find yourself with a feeling of aliveness and calm that is yours until you start using your imagination to think about things that take you out of this feeling.

We have had this capacity of imagination since we were kids, and we used it for daydreaming.

As we grew up, we interacted with adults who forgot that they were using this same capacity. They insisted that their imagination was reality. Not knowing any better, you might have bought into their story.

You started imagining in accordance with them, and when your imagination was no longer feeling fun, you told yourself ‘this is reality’.

Now this capacity to imagine is so wonderful that it will feel realistic. This is part of the fun of it.

But when you forget that you are using it, you can unintentionally make yourself feel in ways that are not aligned with your true desires.

So now your imagination, or your ‘reality’, states that you must pursue something. Once you do, you allow yourself to relax into your natural wellbeing for a bit, and feel good, before you churn up your imagination again to make-believe the next thing.

You also might have a lot of other imaginations that justify this previous imagination – and none of these particularly feel good.

But you need not worry, you are intelligent enough to course-correct as effortlessly as you desire.

You will feel worse and worse until you decide that your imagination is just not worth believing in, and you let go of it and relax – and voila! You will find yourself in your natural wellbeing yet again.

In our coaching sessions, we just make it so obvious to you that you immediately drop it and start feeling good effortlessly. But you are always free to make it as difficult as you want it to be.
