There are two kinds of people who are usually drawn to my work. In the beginning, they are often trapped in a false duality.
They believe they have to choose between the “Material World” of outer impact – strategy, profit, ambition, concrete achievement; and the “Spiritual World” of inner stillness – peace, presence and alignment.
When we start working together, it becomes apparent to them that there are no two separate worlds, but one continuous movement of life energy, expressing itself in two overlapping phases.
These two kinds of people are just at different points on the same continuum. So perhaps you can see for yourself where you are at in your own life.
The Return to Essence
The first group comprises high-achievers and leaders who are winning the game of the material world. They have the titles, the liquidity, and perhaps even the legacy. Yet, they have glimpsed a crack in the façade. They have realized that while their achievements are tangible, they are also transient.
They are drawn by a longing to contact something more real and unchanging.
They are seeking the “spark of divinity” within – the feeling of aliveness and inspiration that drives their life and work.
This is the movement of return. It is the shifting of attention from the external objects of success back toward the internal Subject of awareness. It is the journey from the movement of ‘Doing’ to the silence of simply ‘Being.’
The Expression of Essence
The second group – or often, the same people at a different stage – are those who have touched that inner spark of aliveness and presence. They have found the peace and grounding of their spiritual nature.
But instead of retiring from the world, they realize that this spiritual essence is not static; it is alive and creative.
They feel a pulse of life energy that wants to move through them. They want to build businesses, lead teams, and create in the world not to get validation, but to express the wholeness they have found.
This is the movement of creation and expression. It is Spirit pouring itself back into material form. It is leading not from a place of deficit (“I need to achieve this to be enough”), but from a place of overflow (“I am complete, and now I want to play”).
The Business Case for Wholeness
Why does this matter for a CEO navigating a complex and high-stakes reality? Because a fragmented leader creates a fragmented organization.
When a leader operates solely from the Material world, they are driven by fear, scarcity, and the need for control in an uncontrollably complex world. Their decisions are reactive and their presence is anxious.
This anxiety ripples through the organization and they lack the maturity of spiritual insight and self-awareness.
Conversely, it is perhaps needless to say that a retreat into intellectualized spirituality and away from material reality can be risky and to many, undesirable.
When this happens, leaders avoid the hard edges of reality in favor of “good vibes” and risk becoming ineffective. They may have peace, but they lack traction. They avoid necessary conflict, fail to make tough decisions, and leave their stakeholders without clear direction or accountability.
When a leader operates from the integrated state where Spirit and Matter are one, they unlock a new level of capacity in multiple levels. For example:
- Clarity & Communication: They are not clouded by the ego’s need to be right, allowing them to see and call out reality with ruthless precision.
- Resilience: Because their identity is anchored deeper in presence, they can navigate volatility and hold tensions without collapsing.
- Executive Presence: They lead not through force, but through a grounded authority that naturally inspires loyalty and alignment. They exude what is called ‘executive presence’ as a natural state rather than as a forced technique.
Awakening as Integration
The innocent misunderstanding many leaders have is thinking these are two separate destinations.
The Materialist fears that finding Spirit means losing their edge and becoming passive.
The Spiritualist fears that entering the Material world means losing their peace and selling out.
The Awakened Leader recognizes that Matter and Spirit are one continuous reality. They navigate material reality with awareness and insight rather than collapsing into one over the other.
When you perceive the material world as simply Spirit in a different phase, the strategy decks, the P&L, the difficult negotiations appear not as distractions from your spiritual path; they appear as the mediums through which your spirit can express itself uniquely in your life.
Instead of simply disconnecting from the material world to find a spiritual world, or trying to deal with a complex and overwhelming material reality without a spiritual grounding, you can develop your capacity to recognize that the material world is infused with spirit through and through.
This also means that returning to essence, and creating from essence are not linear events, but are always available to us as movements within our own consciousness that we can access anytime.
This is not a matter of believing, this is a matter of perception and insight. When you understand the first principles of how our minds work, and live with this insight, the illusions fall away. You feel stable yet dynamic, and peaceful yet powerful. You are no longer a ‘business leader trying to be spiritual.’
You are a force of nature, exploring and expressing its potential through the vehicle of your leadership. This is the invitation of Awakened Leadership I extend to you.
