I invite you today to forget everything you have ever learnt about yourself and the world, just for the next 5 minutes. Play along.
Notice how your experience of being alive started most recently. You were blissfully ignorant of everything, even of yourself, while you were deep in sleep. You were experiencing nothing except a deep sense of rest.
Suddenly, your mind and your sense organs start becoming active. Instead of a blissful blankness, you start experiencing light and sounds and touch.
And instead of deep restfulness, you start experiencing different thoughts in the form of images of memories and imaginations of what your day would be like. As you engage with these imageries, you start experiencing different feelings.
Long gone is the feeling which was there before you woke up. Depending on the specific thoughts you have, you feel good or you don’t feel great about your day. And you no longer experience the blankness, you constantly see images and hear voices inside representing your thoughts and feelings.
This becomes your normal state of operation throughout your day – noisy and stressful, unrecognized as such simply because you are so used to it being your normal.
If you go on a vacation to the beach, or to the mountains, you will start feeling that rest and blissfulness again for a while. And as you come back to your ‘normal’ life, you will notice how stressful and noisy it is before you get used to it again.
I invite you today to consider what it would be like, if your normal day feels like how you feel when you are on the beach or in the mountains.
If you could cultivate the peace and calm within you wherever you are, how much more enjoyable would your life be? What would it be worth for you to develop that skill?
