Living Tango – A Life of Surrender

I just returned from a week-long festival of Argentine Tango at the experimental spiritual town of Auroville in India. Dancing Tango is a deeply spiritual experience, while also being emotionally and physically intense.

Tango requires a high degree of attunement to the music and to your partner. And it has seemingly paradoxical physical requirements – a gymnast level body control and stability while being as relaxed as possible in all your muscles.

The surrender that ensues has a spiritual quality to it – it is surrender to the Tango music, to your partner and to life. And so, not everyone is ready for it. Tango is deeply touching and meaningful, because of the attunement and surrender. And it offers us an insight into a meaningful way to live life.

If we could be attuned to the voice of wisdom within us, and trust where it leads us, and surrender to it, what would become of our life?

Instead of trying to do what we imagine would look good on our resumes, what if we did what we are inspired to do?

Instead of orchestrating the rest of our lives from where we stand currently, what if we let life orchestrate us as we move through it?

Then we would be a force of nature – listening to what life is telling us, and moving to the beat of the universe.

It is a different way of living, one that is not guided by what other people are doing, or even what we imagine we should be doing. One that is guided by the wisdom of the present moment, which is always freshly available to us moment by moment, as we life our lives.

I dance Tango because that is the way I live my life. And that is my invitation for you today, to live a life beyond what you can currently conceive.
